    ἀνακαινόω (καινόω ‘make new’; act. Orig., C. Cels. 4, 20; mid. Heliod. Philos., In EN 221, 13) renew only in Paul, in pass., and fig. of the spiritual rebirth of the Christian (opp. διαφθείρειν) ὁ ἔσω ἡμῶν (ἄνθρωπος) ἀνακαινοῦται our inner (spiritual) person is being renewed 2 Cor 4:16. ἀ. εἰς ἐπίγνωσιν renew for full knowledge Col 3:10.—DELG s.v. καινός.
